TikTok Youth Editorial Team – Political Education and Empowerment

The TikTok youth editorial team regularly produces short videos on topics such as democracy, discrimination, homophobia, violence prevention, youth and volunteer work, and life in Germany. The content is developed and implemented by the young people themselves, ensuring that their perspectives become visible and reach other young audiences.

Main goal / overarching objective

The overall goal is to empower young people—especially refugee and migrant youth—so that they can raise their voices on political and social issues and actively participate in democratic processes. Through low-threshold political education and creative media work, self-efficacy, media literacy, and social participation are promoted.

Sub-goals

• Establishment and stabilization of a permanent editorial team of approx. 17 young people (around 15 with refugee experience)
• Production of an average of 5 videos per month (approximately 74 contributions over the project period)
• Development of skills in research, storytelling, video production, and responsible use of social media
• Reduction of prejudices and strengthening of a solidarity-based, discrimination-sensitive community

Target group

Ukrainian youth as well as young people with and without a migration background aged 15–26 living in Düsseldorf and surrounding areas.

Where and how often?

The editorial team meets regularly (at least once a month, and more often if needed) at the association’s office in Düsseldorf and online to plan, produce, and evaluate content. In addition, several workshops per year are held on video production, political education, and media literacy.
